Congratulations on reaching a milestone in your academic journey!

Smithfield Little League (SLL) is proud to once again offer scholarships to former players who embody the ideals and values of the league. One-year scholarships will be awarded to eligible individuals to assist with college tuition or fees associated with the first year of trade school instruction.

In regard to eligibility and selection for a SLL Scholarship, it is important to note that years of play is not the only criteria that is considered. The league believes that an applicant's service to the league should be considered equally with playing time. Service could include the number of years as an umpire, serving as a “Challenger Buddy”, helping to coach a team or attending games in support of the players or other efforts in support of youth baseball in Smithfield.

Applicants must meet the following criteria to be eligible for a scholarship:
● Minimum of five seasons of play in Smithfield Little League
● Service to the league other than play (i.e. Umpire, Challenger Division volunteer, coach)
● Acceptance to an accredited college, university or trade school. Completed applications must be received no later than Monday, April 15, 2024, either online or mailed to the address located at the bottom of the application. All applications must include the following:
● Complete and signed application
● SLL Participation history
● Character reference or letter of recommendation
● 500-word (maximum) essay
● Acceptance letter to an accredited college, university or trade school If you choose, you can also complete this application online via the Smithfield Little League website. However, the letter of recommendation and college acceptance letter must still be submitted by mail.

A committee composed of current and/or former members of the SLL Board of Directors will review all applications. Those selected for a scholarship award will be notified Honors Night in June of this year. Congratulations once again on your upcoming high school graduation and best of luck in your future endeavors.
